The journey of the past two days hasn't been very remarkable. I left Dawson City, I didn't see the two backpackers when I left town, they said they were gonna try to get to Fairbanks first thing in the morning, so hopefully they got a ride. I still wanted to pick up a hitch hiker, so I was on the look out, and at the turn off to the Dempster I found one. Sam.
Sam was on his way to Vancouver Island. He had just found out that his dad had been diagnosed with leukemia so he was on his way home for a few days. Sam works at the lodge at mile 0 of the Dempster, this was his second summer up there. He met a girl at the University in Nanimo and followed her up here. I didn't ask if they're still together, and he didn't tell. It seemed like to personal a question for a single serving friend. Sam is a singer/songwriter and an author. So if you see a novel by Sam from Vancouver Island, who now lives and works in the north that's him. And let it be know that I met him first! Sam was lucky, I was the first car that passed by, he'd been out on the highway for about 5 minutes. He told me he expected that he would have to wait for at least 20 cars to drive by before somebody picked him up.
So I picked Sam up, and we chatted for a bit, but mostly he slept and I drove. An ideal hitchhiker! He didn't talk my ear off and he didn't try to rob me … bonus! He even paid me! I always assumed that people hitchhiked because it was free! I guess times have changed!
I dropped Sam off in Whitehorse and spent the night at Andrea's (Kathy's cousin) and this morning I left, now I'm here … my KD is finished and it's yummy … I saw a couple bears today, and had a conversation with a Buffalo along the side of the road … he wasn't much of a talker :) And I also stopped at this look out. When Kathy and I did our trip to Alaska we stopped here and took our picture. We look so young back then!

Kathy and I our random trip to Alaska 7 years ago.
I think this is the same spot. It's grown over a bit since I was there last
Like I said, not a very remarkable two days. I am glad that I didn't spend the night in Watson Lake. It was raining when I got there and the forecast for tonight was also for rain. Here the sun is shining and it's looking like it's gonna be a nice night.
I don't really have anything super deep to say at the moment, I'm just really diggin' the KD I made! So I'm gonna stop writing now and eat up while it's still hot!
Yummy KD
~ Until next time
ps. yes that's right I'm eating it right from the pot! Boo-ya me!
